Come October, KLM is switching its three-times weekly flight between
Amsterdam and Sint Maarten from a Boeing 747-400 to an Airbus A330-200.
This change means the iconic sight of a jumbo jet winging its way low
over the sun-worshipers on Maho Beach will be a thing of the past later
this year.
The sight of a Boeing 747 passing low over Maho Beach in Sint Maarten
will be a thing of the past at the end of October, when KLM Royal Dutch
Airlines ceases using jumbo jets on its flight to the small Caribbean
island. For many years, the arrival of the large jet three times a week
has drawn crowds to the small beach bordering the end of the runway at
Princess Juliana International Airport. Until now the flight has
operated with a split load and has continued on to Curaçao, but from the
start of the winter timetable an Airbus A330 will serve the island
directly from and to Amsterdam.
